The college owes its origin and fame to the paramount generosity and prudence of considerate individuals who have selflessly patronized this college irrespective of their respective official responsibilities at this academic institution. For the persistence of the flame of knowledge and honour, like my predecessors, I pledge a step ahead to be upright in leading the administration of this seat ofknowledge and learningthrough the purview of thestatutes of the University of North Bengal without any kind of prejudice and high-handedness. I am pleased to heartily welcome you as a prospective member of this higher education institution, named after Shri Sukanta Bhattacharya, the acclaimed poet and freedom fighter of Bengal. Our college actively encourages students to strive relentlessly for the attainment of their highest potential through excellence. The objective of the teachers and the staff of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya is to mentor our students, who are young adults,and nurture their efficacious enthusiasm towards a righteous life as responsible citizens of India. Our aspiration is attained through an effective policy of imparting proper education and moral values into an ever widening thought and action. Within the classroom and outside, through an articulate teaching and learning process our students endeavor to their future ahead with a liberated, fearless mind and a head held high. Our illustrious alumni members have enthralled us through their respective contributions in the field of arts, sports and culture, many of them have secured respectable positions both in the public sector as well as in the private sector of this country. 25 September 1981 is a red-letter day in the history of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri. On this day this higher education institution began its journey with the endorsement and enthusiasm of some of the eminent people of Dhupguri. This institution presently offers 15/16 degree courses in B.A (Hons. & General) and B.Sc. (Hons. & General) with around 6000 students. The college has 32 experienced and dedicated teachers (UGC Substantiveposts), 52 teachers (SACT posts) and 30 staff members. Since its genesis Sukanta Mahavidyalaya has enlarged to this present day interrogating all kinds of impediments in its glorious odyssey towards attaining an eminence in education.With inter-disciplinary and insightful lectures delivered by teachers, followed by complementing interactions with the students, this higher education institution has contributed towards creating a silver lining in the horizon of undergraduate education. The methodology of teaching applied in this institution accelerates a comprehensive psychic and academic development of every student, engendering in their youthful passionate hearts the importance of the apophthegm of this institution i.e. labour, respect and knowledge. Through such an academic ambience the teacher and her/his student discover the bonds of affection through a lesson of discipline in order to locate a deep oneness of spirit. For an encyclopedic enrichment the teachers of this higher education institution regularly supervise towards theall-inclusive development of the students through a structured curriculum, scientifically planned academic calendar, continuous internal assessment and various co-curricular activities, like NCC, NSS, sports, community outreach programme, wall magazine, cultural programme to name a few. Our singular mission is to strive everyday towards enhancing the quality of education for our students in order to enable them to experience the portals of true knowledge and the inherent happiness. Besides the text, emphasis is also provided to innovative teaching learning techniques and the use of ICT. The entire system of teaching and learning undertaken is followed by an anonymous feedback system which are stepping-stones for improvement.
