About the Department

The Department of Computer Science was introduced in the year 1996 and is one of the earliest Computer Science departments in the region. Currently, it has 4 faculty members and around 60 students working towards their Bachelor’s degree. In addition, it actively participates in select off-campus programmes.

 

One of the strengths of the department is its strong entrepreneurial culture and many students have successfully involved themselves in creating entrepreneurial ventures some of which have gone fully commercial within a short span of time.

 

Faculty and students often collaborate on projects and working side-by-side with researchers from other institutions. In addition to the excellent faculty, resources and quality research opportunities available through the department, there is a real sense of community and teamwork here.

PROGRAMME OUTCOME

Programme Outcomes The Computer Science Department's Bachelor of Computer Science Honours course must enable students to attain, by the time of graduation: Students who complete B.Sc. Computer Science, gain experience in practical learning activities. Learners become acutely aware of the importance of expanding their knowledge in their chosen fields, allowing them to gain admission to diverse well-established universities. Learners become familiar with many emerging advancements in scientific activity that are taking place everywhere around them. This nascent Gen's curiosity for research is piqued, prompting students to pursue assignments in reputable laboratories across the nation after finishing the course. Learners become employable, and that they can pursue jobs and/or educational programmes if they so desire. Learners sharpen their observational skills in order to unlock the doors towards the upcoming information world. Amongst the most important outcomes of the curriculum is instillation of improved life priorities in the students, enabling students to tackle any future career peril.   Programme Specific Outcomes Students will: Become technology-oriented with the knowledge and ability to develop creative solutions, and better understand the effects of future developments of computer systems and technology on people and society as a whole. Acquire some development experience within a specific field of Computer Science, through project work. Gain ability to apply knowledge of Computer Science to the real-world issues. Get familiar with current research trends in various fields of Computer Science. Use creativity, critical thinking, analyses and research skills. Get prepared for placement by developing personality and soft skills. Gain ability to communicate scientific information in a clear and concise manner. Build up programming, analytical and logical thinking abilities. Know the recent developments in IT, future possibilities and limitations, and understand the value of lifelong learning. Get an ability to participate in debates, discussions in the society constructively.

Workshop on ICT in Education for Teachers
Dated: 31st March, 2017-01st April, 2017

The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri organized a two-day’s Workshop on ICT in Education for Teachers on 31st March, 2017-01st April, 2017 at the college venue. Participants from college and other institutions participated in this programme.

EDUCATIONAL TOUR 2020
Dated: 21st January, 2020

The Department of Computer Science of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya organized an educational tour on 21st January, 2020 to TRA Tocklai, Tea Research Association, North Bengal Regional R&D center, Nagrakata-733 225 to enrich students by sharing views of real life activities beyond their regular curriculum activity. Students of Computer Science Honours of various semesters participated in the aforesaid educational tour under the supervision of four (04) faculty members.

A National Webinar on Effective E-learning through Moodle System: An opportunity to learn in the present pandemic challenge was organized the Department of Computer Science of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri on 07th August, 2020 on online mode. More than 150 participants including Principal, faculty members of various departments and students participated in the aforesaid programme.

An International Webinar on Effective the future promises of computer systems was organized the Department of Computer Science of Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri on 02nd September, 2020 at 06.P.M. (IST) on online mode. More than 200 participants including Principal, faculty members of various departments and students participated in the aforesaid programme.

CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY
Dated:28TH February, 2022

National Science Day was organized by all the faculty members and students of science stream and celebrated on 28th February 2022 at Computer Laboratory as per the notice circulated by the Principal, Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri on 25th February 2002 vide reference number 2022/SMV/Notice/018. Principal, all the faculty members and students of this college actively participated in this programme.

Educational Tour

The department of Computer Science undertook an Educational Tour for the Students on 3 rd Feb 2023, venue was Science Centre, Matigara, Siliguri. The tour was based on the theme “Discovering New Insights through Practice” keeping in mind the opportunities for the Technology to explore and experience practically what they have learned in the classroom. During the Tour, Students were given the opportunities to prepare a plan incorporating activities to make their interaction with the real life implementations of practical knowledge. Faculty members also had a fruitful interactive session with the students. Altogether 16 Students and 4 Teachers and 1 Lab attendant of the Department participated in the educational tour.

Students Parents Teacher Meeting 2023

Students Parents Teacher Meeting were held on 24th March 2023 for all Honours students of Computer Science Department to discuss the performance of students with their parents. Parents were given feedback on their ward’s performances in End Term University Exam. The meeting started with the speech delivered by Dr. N S Das, Principal, Sukanta Mahavidyalaya. It was a great interaction between the teacher and the parents for the development of their children where they discussed both the strengths and areas of improvements. Parents’ suggestions were noted.
